I know I was supposetd to finish and submit the "Oriental Dreamgirl" (real name not decided yet), but I did this instead. The WIP is going ok, no big troubles, just tedious detailing on the horse. So expect it soon!
This on the other hand had a rocky start. I've been meaning to do this for... two years? Well, maybe not quite that long (I started painting digitally almost exactly a year ago) , but long enough. I finally got the info needed for completing this piece and thought it best to do it right now. And no, I don't even start stuff if I don't have all the necessary details.
It's a buckskin quarter horse stallion. I like his butt, but the other end sucks. I didn't have a proper ref, so about 75% is guesswork. Didn't even bother gridding/doing proper linework and whilst I was painting the legs (I do them from top to bottom) I think I resized them about 20 times for magically the knees got closer and closer to the supposed ground level.
But yes. I get to take as much "artistic liberties" I wanted as long as the horse was recognizable. So if any or evertyhing is quirky, I pin it down to artistic liberty, not at all on "can't do it better".
If the head isn't good enough tomorrow, I'll consider repainting it. I'm too tired now (woot, you can tell from this description? ), and quite frankly, sick of looking at this piece.
Ok, I forgot if I had anything relevant left to say. So I guess not. And I bet you'll ask if you're the least bit interested.
Beautiful piece, I love it.
The only two things I can find are that his back is a little short, and his neck is a tad Arab-ish (I hope you don't mind me picking). I absolutely love the detail on the legs and head. Gorgeous.

Yeah, he's got a weird neck, but we all can't be perfect. Maybe I should tweak the cheek a bit so it wouldn't stick out that clearly, but it's there and can't be totally deleted/transformed. I'm not sure if I agree on the back though, maybe it's just that his neck makes it look shorter. But there goes me again, I'm not very good with assessing conformations, not to mention drawing perfect ones. I'll have to wait for the list of suggested changes still and see what it says.
Thanks for the comment.
No, no, I still think it's gorgeous! It's probably the large and well muscled haunch typical of quarter horses that makes his back look a little short, but that's just my passing thoughts. Anyway, it's great, and thanks for not getting upset with me for the critique!

I never get upset with people who take the time to look at my stuff and say what they think. Astute notions, it's just that in real life there's not many horses with ideal conformation.
