I'm in serious need for help. That's why I'm posting this. (No point in faving, will be moved to scraps shortly and 're'submitted when finished.)
*Anamaere caught my 5k views. I promised to paint a piece for whoever caught it but I didn't expect it to get this hard! I've been stuck since September. Just can't get this to look anything like decent. I really honestly tried to make this a surprise for *Anamaere, but I have to ask for your input. Any advice? The brief was to paint a "dark bay Thoroughbred (or similar type sport horse)" in a pose like [link] by ~Mangieb. Am I on the right tracks at all? |

Elvis fan with an attitude!
And yeah, my English sucks.
Go and check out my photo account too [link] !
I think the pose is good, but the conformation is a bit off. I think the main problem is he (she?) is a bit leggy. The general rule of thumb for horses is the legs & body should form a square, but it looks like more of a rectangle... shortening the legs or lengthening the back might make things look better.
The other thing I notice is that the perspective is a bit strange. It's hard to explain what I mean, but I'll do my best.
In the reference photo, you are looking down slightly on the horse. In your picture you are looking straight at the horse from the side, but the rear legs are posed the same as in the reference. This makes something seems not quite right about them (they seem back too far and the angles are a bit curious, for example).
The perspective is the thing that's killing me. The problem you noiced is really what's it down to. I can see it's skewed but I can't fix it. The back legs look bent and/or twisted in all the positions I have tried them. Or if I get them right, the horse's back seems like it's broken due to the position of the front legs and the curve in his neck.
grrah. That pose is really killing me. I drew it again a couple of times and I *think* one of them *might* be a bit better but that one's not right either... I made it a bit more like it'd be when viewed straight from the side not like this one has the horse from front-side view. But still the hindlegs are a problem.
Thanks for taking time to give your input. Let's see if I ever get this effing painting somewhere.

And your concern for my mental health might be just a *bit* late...
(If it all goes terribly horribly wrong I have a back-up pose planned, similar but not that special.)
