... like, FINALLY!

I set out to paint this thing way back in Autumn 2006, if you still remember that far back. Or have been looking through my gallery.

I thought I'd really do a proper job with this one and paint most of this over, especially the rider, and then add some nice details to the pony and...
BUT. Then I realised there are things I like about in this. Style and texture I can't recreate as my working methods have evolved so far. So I fixed the most gruesome things and added a background, a better atmosphere. A more intimate scene, a better moment.

So, just slightly edited but enough that I'm willing to call it finished. Sure, it could be more detailed, it could have better contrast and values, sure. And so on. I feel I have to move on, finally. Live and learn, eyes forward!

100 Theme Challenge, #41: Teamwork.

The previous version (from 2006, in my Scraps) won the ~Ultimate-horses-club's "Going West" contest.

/EDIT. I thought I add a bit about my thinking behind doing this scene for "teamwork". This is trying to be "hesitate" after spin (or more accurately the last steps of spin). In a spin, a good rider gives one signal to start and another to stop letting the horse perform. A good horse waits for those signals and acts on them. Same goes for hesitation.

I think all western riding takes huge amounts of teamwork but especially in Reining sometimes you just have to let your partner to take his/her time and give the space needed. To know when to help and guide or when to stand back and shut up is essential for any team to function to the best of its ability.

In this scene I tried to convey that the rider is waiting quietly for the last hoof to get to its place while the horse takes the time needed to finish her job.
